Job Description
Location: Hertfordshire
PQE: 4–8 years
Salary: £70,000 – £80,000
Ready to make the move in-house?
Are you a Property Litigation Solicitor looking to step away from the traditional private practice environment and become more involved in the commercial and operational side of a business?
This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading UK property and investment group as an In-House Solicitor, playing an integral role within its legal function and wider business.
Working closely with the Head of Legal, you will become a trusted legal adviser to the business, supporting a substantial residential leasehold property management operation across England and Wales. Rather than working to the demands of private practice billing targets and fee-earning, you will have the opportunity to develop a much closer understanding of the business, build relationships with key internal stakeholders and provide practical, commercially focused legal advice that directly supports business objectives.
The role offers real variety, with involvement in complex property management, building safety, regulatory and property litigation matters. You will be encouraged to take ownership of your work, understand the wider commercial implications of legal issues and contribute to the ongoing development of the business.
The Role
- Providing practical, commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of property management and building safety matters, both contentious and non-contentious.
- Managing and advising on property litigation matters, including complex residential leasehold and freehold disputes.
- Working closely with operational and management teams, helping the business navigate legal challenges and make informed commercial decisions.
- Investigating complex leasehold and freehold title structures and advising on their implications for the business.
- Supporting the business on building safety, regulatory and compliance matters.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts, pleadings, legal correspondence and other documentation.
- Working alongside external solicitors and counsel where required, ensuring legal matters are managed effectively and commercially.
- Developing strong relationships across the business, becoming a key point of contact for legal and property-related issues.
- Supporting the Head of Legal on wider legal and strategic matters as the business continues to develop.
The Ideal Candidate
- A qualified Solicitor with 4+ years' PQE and experience in property litigation, gained either in private practice or in-house.
- Strong knowledge of residential property law, particularly leasehold and freehold matters.
- County Court and First-tier Tribunal experience
- Experience handling property disputes and/or building safety issues.
- Construction law experience would be advantageous.
- A commercially minded approach, with the ability to provide clear, pragmatic advice rather than simply identifying legal risks.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work directly with non-legal stakeholders.
- Well organised, proactive and comfortable managing a varied workload with competing priorities.
Why Make the Move?
This is an opportunity to do more than simply change firms. It offers the chance to make a genuine move in-house and become part of the business you are advising.
You will gain exposure to the commercial and operational aspects of a substantial property organisation, develop relationships with decision-makers and see the direct impact of your legal advice. Working closely with an experienced Head of Legal, you will have the opportunity to broaden your skill set, develop your commercial awareness and take on a more involved role in the business.
For a solicitor looking to move away from fee-earning pressures and towards a more commercially integrated legal role, this is an opportunity worth exploring.
