Job Description

Legal Director – Contentious Intellectual Property, Birmingham

A leading international law firm is looking to recruit an experienced Intellectual Property lawyer to join its highly regarded team in Birmingham as a Legal Director. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious IP specialist to play a key role in the continued growth of the contentious practice, working on complex, high-profile disputes for an impressive client base.

The Role

You will handle a broad range of contentious intellectual property matters, including trade mark, copyright and design right disputes, passing off, confidential information claims, domain name disputes, unfair competition and patent infringement litigation.

Working alongside recognised specialists across the national IP practice, you will advise clients on complex disputes, develop long-standing client relationships and contribute to the strategic growth of the Birmingham team. You will also play an important role in mentoring junior lawyers, supporting business development and enhancing the practice's market profile.

The team is recognised for its work on significant, high-profile cases, including a recent Supreme Court success in the intellectual property dispute between Dairy UK and Oatly.

The Candidate

Applications are welcomed from experienced Intellectual Property lawyers with a strong background in contentious IP work and the ability to manage complex matters independently.

You will have excellent technical expertise across a range of IP disputes, strong commercial judgement and the ability to deliver practical, strategic advice to clients. Experience in developing client relationships and contributing to the growth of a practice is important, while previous experience building an IP team would be advantageous.

Experience in patent infringement litigation would also be beneficial.

The Firm

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leading international law firm with an established national IP practice and an impressive portfolio of high-profile clients. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence the future direction of the contentious IP practice in Birmingham and work alongside recognised specialists on market-leading matters.

Flexible hybrid working is available.
