LEGAL BILLING COORDINATOR, MANCHESTER - Join an established multi-office law firm and take the lead on legal aid billing, compliance and cash collection.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Legal Aid Billing Specialist to join a busy finance team in Manchester. Working closely with the Billing Manager and Head of Finance, you will bring your technical legal aid expertise to the role, with a particular focus on improving billing turnaround, payments on account and LAA compliance.

Working closely with the Billing Manager and Head of Finance, you will bring your technical legal aid expertise to the role, with a particular focus on improving billing turnaround, payments on account and LAA compliance.
The Role
- Oversee civil final bills and payments on account from submission through to payment.
- Monitor legal aid billing, assessments, disbursements and LAA submissions.
- Act as a key point of contact for legal aid billing and compliance queries.
- Support LAA audits and deal with statutory charges, recoupments, file transfers and out-of-time bills.
- Produce regular billing and cash collection reports and help identify areas for improvement.
- Work closely with the Billing Manager to improve processes, clear historic backlogs and support the wider billing team.
- Provide guidance and training to fee earners and support staff on legal aid billing requirements.
The Candidate
You will have proven experience in a legal aid billing role within a sizeable multi-office practice, with strong knowledge of CCMS, CWA, payments on account, final bills and assessments.
You will also have:
- A strong understanding of civil legal aid remuneration, including FAS, fixed fees and escape cases.
- Experience of LAA compliance and contract audits.
- Knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules and client money requirements.
- Strong Excel and reporting skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex billing requirements clearly.
- A track record of improving billing performance, reducing backlogs or improving cash collection.
- Experience of care proceedings/family billing, VHCC work, crime billing and Law Fusion would be advantageous.
