Charity

By

Raising money for charity has been an important part of eNL life for many years. The charities we have supported range from the largest and well known organisations such as MacMillan Cancer Support and The Prince’s Trust, through to the smaller local charities and hospices that have touched some us personally. Being part of the Pertemps Network Group, we are lucky enough to get what we have raised matched by the Group, meaning twice as much going to these charities.

There are so many worthy causes out there that we now ask our employees to nominate their chosen charity at the beginning of the year and four are selected at random to be our “quarterly charity”. Dress down Friday is our regular weekly fund raiser, with all members of staff paying a £1 for the privilege of wearing our jeans and trainers. We supplement this with a range of events, usually led by the person who nominated the charity.

In the past we have had team members jumping out of planes, abseiling off buildings, doing sponsored bike rides and sleeping rough – all in the name of charity! The most popular and successful money raisers are without a doubt food related – the eNL Bake Offs and Buffets are legendary within the office (and the businesses we share our building with)!

Here’s a brief review of what we have been involved with so far this year and what we have planned for the second half of the year:

Quarter 1

The first quarter of the year was all about raising money for Gemma's chosen charity Tiny Tim’s Children’s Centre in Coventry. The big money spinner was a “Bring and Buy Sale” which saw the eNL Legal Boardroom filled with a huge range of 2nd hand goods for sale including designer children’s clothes, books, candles, toiletries and games, as well as some home-made baked goods (of course!). With the total made from the sale, plus the money collected for our weekly Friday dress-down, we raised the grand sum of £364.85!

In addition to our quarterly charities, eNL Legal is now supporting its employees taking part in volunteer days for local charities. The first day happened in February and saw 6 willing volunteers spend a day at Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham – click here to find out more

Quarter 2

Quarter 2 has been a busy charitable time for eNL Legal. Our main focus for April, May and June was raising funds for Milestones Trust, a Bristol based charity that supports people with learning disabilities, mental health needs, dementia, and those with complex behavioural needs.

Before After

Several members of the eNL Legal team completed the Wolf Run, braving mud and water for a very good cause! To see how they got one click here. Then, to balance things up, Bessie Phelps organised a World Food Buffet to reflect not only the wide range of cultures that the eNL team come from, but also our favourite foods. Our lunch menu included, among other things,  Indian, Italian and Mexican cuisine, as well as good old traditional British classics of Scotch Eggs, Pork Pies and a Victoria Sponge!

All in all, £559 was raised for Milestones Trust!

In addition to fund raising, 6 of our consultants volunteered a day of their time at the Birmingham Dogs’ Home – check out this great article here by Louise Evans - Dogs Home Blog

Quarter 3

Quarter 3 kicked off with a bang, with Penny's chosen charity, raising money for Carter the Brave - a local Birmingham charity supporting the incredible work of the Oncology Ward & Clinic of Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

eNL started the Quarter with a month long cake sale – lots of home made treats were enjoyed including tiffin, brownies, a jammy dodger cake, millionaire shortbread and cookies!

We also held a Summer Quiz, with the questions set by eNL’s answer to Anne Robinson….locum Consultant Felicity Simpson!

Despite it being the summer months and a number of the team having time off for holidays, we raised an impressive £400 for Carter the Brave!

In addition to this Penny and her son Alexander also took part in a fun run raising a further £1600 - Well done guys this is amazing!

We also continued with our Volunteer Days with 3 consultants volunteering a day of their time at the Birmingham Dogs’ Home.

The quarter ended with a Buffet Lunch organised as part of the MacMillan Coffee Morning, https://coffee.macmillan.org.uk/ which raised £100 for this great cause.

Quarter 4

The last quarter of the year is well underway now – we’ve already had a Pyjama day and a Christmas Quiz and Buffet is planned, all in aid of the MS Society https://www.mssociety.org.uk/
