What is your career highlight?
I worked as a HR Advisor in several European countries which gave me an invaluable insight into employment legislation in different jurisdictions and HR best practice. It also increased my awareness of cultural sensitivities and norms and I feel this experience has helped me develop on a professional and personal level.
From a HR perspective what do you find is the most challenging part of the recruitment process?
I think it is challenging for Recruiting Managers to differentiate between the ‘essentials’ and the ‘desirables’ when finalising the job specification. HR practitioners need to play an active role at the beginning of the process to ensure there is no time wasted which may impact the quality of the recruit.
What is the first music single you ever bought?
Cringe! Vanilla Ice – ‘ Ice Ice Baby’.
One point you would like to see candidates demonstrate more at interview?
Sounds simple but more eye contact!
What do you enjoy most about working for IBB?
I enjoy working closely with Senior Partners, the Managing Partner and other Support Leads. I feel that IBB’s size allows me to have a good overall understanding of the firm which has helped increase my business and commercial awareness.
Preferred international destination?
Sri Lanka!
What do you consider to be the most significant change within the legal profession in the last 5 years?
The introduction of the Alternative Business Structure, in my view will dilute the quality of legal services. Traditional law firms that offer the more personalised approach will be in competition with firms offering a cheaper and more commoditised service. It is a challenge that all law firms need to plan for.
What do you do at weekends?
I am a senior volunteer in my local community which entails organising team events and fundraising on a national level. I love catching up on my recorded TV programmes, testing my culinary skills and catching up with friends and family.
